Barbie Angell is a fabulous poet, and well known in Asheville for her wit and wordsmithing.  She was sweet enough to don a short skirt and fancy tights, get on stage, and read some of her bitter, sweet, and sexy verses for all eight shows of High Skirts: Illicitly Yours – and then she was nice enough to write a whole post about it!

Visit her blog and share the love (and check out her upcoming book): Barbie Angell: Bombs Away Cabaret

“High Skirts: Illicitly Yours!”
Having narrowly avoided foreclosure on several occasions, Bombs Away Cabaret is no stranger to garter belt-tightening. So, when troupe member Iona Traylor finds out that her family farm is about to be bought-out and demolished to build a strip mall, the girls are quick to pack up their corsets and head to the country to see if their feminine wiles can save the day. But will the good people of Hollar, West Virginia be entertained by the burlesque stylings of an uppity fallen opera star, a bitter mail-order bride, and a very confused fundamentalist Mormon?

Bombs Away Cabaret, Asheville’s foremost cabaret and burlesque collaborative, is excited to announce its next venture: Get Some Faerie Tail, a fairytale-themed revue show also featuring psycho-cabaret band Hellblinki and juggling troupe Forty Fingers and a Missing Tooth. In the words of The Laurel of Asheville, Bombs Away Cabaret’s shows are “tawdry, bawdy, and leave you saying ‘Oh, lawdy!’”

Bombs Away Cabaret was formed in 2008 and is dedicated to restoring burlesque to its comedic roots while raise funds for charitable causes. In April 2012, the troupe will venture to the Magnetic Field Theatre for its fourth full-length production, High Skirts: Illicitly Yours, a farcical play interwoven with original musical comedy numbers. Proceeds from Get Some Faerie Tail will help the troupe stage High Skirts: Illicitly Yours, whose proceeds will benefit Brother Wolf Animal Rescue.
